AGENT X - Rock 'N' Roll Angels (2011)
*
From the vaults comes "Rock 'N' Roll Angels", an EP recorded in 1987 by AGENT X, one of the many bands from the Sunset Strip that never make it big.
Although marketed as Glam, the only reference to this genre was their look.
Agent X plays 80's LA Rock here, hair American Melodic Rock with a touch of rockin' AOR.
The charismatic vocalist Danny Simon, who later enjoyed moderate success with the hard rock outfit Jailhouse, and Billy D'Vette's (later in Pair-A-Dice) hot fretwork are the driving force of this recording.
We have 6 fine rockers in the best American way such as the anthemic "Chasing The Night" in the Dokken style, the catchy melodic rocker "Rock 'N' Roll Angels" (nice chorus) followed by the Enuf 'Z Nuff influenced rocker "Run If You Can".
The second half adds more prominent keyboards to the mix as heard on the cool AOR-rock "Out On The Streets".
"Hard Road To Heaven" sounds like earlier Warrant, whilst "Falling In Love" has a hooky melodic line reinforced by classy synths.
"Rock 'N' Roll Angels" is a nice and cool trip back to the late 80's.
Partially produced by famed Kim Fowley (Kiss, Runaways), Agent X sounds more than decent on these bunch of songs.
Released in limited quantities by a small specialized label, "Rock 'N' Roll Angels" surely will be out of print soon. So if you like this kind of stuff, get it pronto.
Nice.
