FASTWAY - Eat Dog Eat [bonus track version] (2011)

FASTWAY - Eat Dog Eat [bonus track version] (2011)
Bonus Track Version

*

After almost 21 years, Fastway is back, with a new line-up and the brand new "Eat Dog Eat".
Formed back in 1983 by Fast Eddie Clarke (Motörhead) and Pete Way (UFO), after enjoying success with albums like 'Fastway', 'All Fired Up' and 'Waiting For The Roar', the band ground to a halt in 1991.

"Eat Dog Eat" marks their first new studio album since 1990 and features the remodeled line-up of Fast Eddie Clarke, drummer Matt Eldridge and former Little Angels and Gun frontman Toby Jepson.
Jepson has always been a superb musician and with Fast Eddie in inspired songwriting form this is an impressive comeback that will be lapped up by old-timers and should win them plenty of new admirers along the way.
Fastway's current incarnation takes helpings of Led Zeppelin, a hint of Whitesnake, maybe even a little of Thunder's spice and serves it up with a healthy slice of Little Angels, all of this should be enough to satisfy the appetite of many a rocking soul.

Hitting their stride immediately with the mid-tempo blues rocker "Deliver Me" it is clear that Fastway model 2011 are slick, streamlined and bursting with confidence. There's passionate vocals by Toby Jepson and a smokin' solo.
"Leave The Light On" has that memorable swagger that was a trademark of Fastway's first era when they had considerable success with both the eponymous debut and 'All Fired Up'. Eddie deliver a sharp solo here.
"Loving Fool" is a great rocker with a catchy chorus and some 'fast' brilliant guitar lines, while "Dead And Gone" is a huge track featuring a heavy bluesier sound with feeling.

Fastway was never a fashion band. They were playing old-fashioned pure hard rock with attitude. Even back in his Motörhead days Clarke could always come up with a great melody as on the rousing "Who Do You Believe".
The slinky opening riff of "Sick As A Dog" even sounds like it could have graced the band's first albums.
A title of "Love I Need" may suggest a ballad but the insistent, grinding riff and Jepson's call and response delivery equals another moody blues rocker with Clarke again serving up a tasty solo. One of the better songs on the album.
"On And On" ends the album with some powerhouse drumming from the energetic Eldridge and more blistering guitar work.

Fast Eddie Clarke has returned with a vengeance.
"Eat Dog Eat" really takes us back to the classic basic hard rock resting on the traditional British bluesy foundation.
Jepson proves himself as a great musician for this style with his smoky, melodious tones perfectly suiting this collection of immaculately crafted bluesy rockers. Fast Eddie is also in fine form and he's lost none of his six string prowess.
The production is excellent, walking just the right line between gutsy & raw and clear & polished, and the songs themselves hit the spot with unrelenting accuracy.
"Eat Dog Eat" is a very consistent ten track collection of top class, blues infused hard rock, there's no doubt that you will enjoy this album.

FASTWAY - The Collection [Japan ed. remastered] (2011)

FASTWAY - The Collection [Japan ed. remastered] (2011)

Formed by 'Fast' Eddie Clarke (a guy so talented that Lemmy replaced him in Motorhead with two guitarists) and Pete Way (UFO founder and bassist), Fastway were a critically acclaimed band that never seemed to blowup to the success they deserved.

Fronted by the incredible Irish vocalist Dave King, they had a power chord, riff laden, synth backed, fists raised in the air sound that was the very definition of an '80s hard rock band.

Clarke chose a more mainstream hard rock direction with his new band, and indeed the self-titled debut album was very well-received in the U.S., climbing into the Top 40.

Encouraged, they quickly returned to the studio with new bassist Charlie McKracken to record 1984's 'All Fired Up'. The album still made it into the American Top 60 despite waning interest from their label and continued nonplussed indifference back in the U.K. and Europe.

Looking for a change after losing their rhythm section (replaced by bassist Paul Reid and drummer Alan Connor), Fastway hop the pop-metal bandwagon with the slick 1986's 'Waiting for the Roar'. The synth-laden album also introduced keyboardist and sometimes second guitarist Shane Carroll.

An offer to provide the soundtrack for the heavy metal horror flick 'Trick or Treat' seemed like a perfect shot at redemption.

The film flopped, but the soundtrack was a moderate success, and stayed on the Billboard Top 200 chart for eleven months. The very little money the band received, caused in-fighting and the band soon broke up.

"The Collection", a recent Japan edition, includes remastered versions of the best material from their earlier career (the first 4 albums with vocalist Dave King) and a couple of tracks with new vocalist Lea Hart.

Great sound quality.
