ROADMASTER - Fortress [remastered] (2012)
*
Indiana's ROADMASTER were a highly skilled quintet who masterfully blended AOR and Pomp Rock with subtle ease.
After touring with bands like Molly Hatchet, Angel, Michael Stanley Band and others, Mercury Records stepped in and signed the band in 1978, releasing a couple of albums with a polished sound not unlike Styx or Morningstar.
By 1980, the band was fully entrenched in the AOR craze spawned by bands like Foreigner, Journey, Survivor, The Babys, etc.
That year, "Fortress" was released and is widely considered the band's creative peak, plenty of urgent hooks and catchy choruses.
Still retaining the Pomp AOR flavor, this album is more focused on sharp edged guitar playing with a full-on melodic hard rock attack.
With Steve McNally’s signature voice making the most of the melodies and Rick Benick’s guitar work providing solid gold easy action, the album cruises past the finish line as if they were men hell bent on ripping up the rule book.
Rock Candy is releasing the long awaited reissues of Roadmaster's 'Sweet Music', 'Hey World' and 'Fortress' albums on CD for the very first time, as usual, with a superb 24-bit remastering from original source tapes.
Roadmaster was simply another one of those bands whose name you should've heard alot more than you actually did.
Check out this slick slice of '80s arena rock, you won't be disappointed. A must have for any AOR purist.
Highly Recommended.
